so this afternoon was the end of year history bash. oh lord was it a blast. rather sucked that the weather was horrible. i mean seriously it's not suppose to snow in late april. or at least sleet this blood damn much. but it was great. dr daniels was super sweet to let us have it at her house. i think i spent the entire time either drinking or eating. not a bad combination. but it was a blast. played games, hung out and talked. got to see her super cool house, and play with lots of kitties and doggies :) dr wilber showed up and so did heath and carlos... needless to say everyone had tons of fun. only downside to the whole thign was sarah leaving her lights on and killing her battery, but between jim, daniels husband, and the grad students all was fixed quite quickly. and yes i totally did try to put one of the cats into a huge dish at one point. got a funny picture of a rather indignant cat and me laughing at it.
let's see in my never ending saga of trying to finally see all the movies i couldn't see when they originally came out... i finally saw dangerous beauty. i wanted to see it when it originally, but well i wasn't old enough for a rated R movie and well it is all about courtesans and sex. basically it's a really good intellectual chick flick. my favourite sort :) with some interesting sex scenes ;)
but i should run, because well... i do need to finish that pesky bottle of wine in my fridge :)

so i'm goofing off until the stupid computer program for scheduling will allow me on. stupid program. used to be that if it was the right day it would let you on, but noooo not this year. so i'm going to ramble here since everything else i need to do will take longer than the amount of time i have till i can register for classes. i'd like to say that the crazy prof still hasn't sent me the override stuff i need to take a specific class that i desperatly need in order to graduate. this could be very problematic.
in other news... ummm... well there really isn't much other news. i've been sooooo busy this semester that i really haven't had time to do much worth updating about. which is why i've got the successive string of web quizzes for the last oh 20 or so posts. random blurbs about cool songs or bands do not count. i know i've updated that way a good couple times lately.
it's finally warming up here in michigan...thank you GOD!!! it's about bloody time. so i'll probably hide out behind the building sunday when it's suppose to be like 75 degrees and i shall enjoy this weather possibly by reading outside and discretly drinking :) works for me :)
other than all of this, i can't wait for summer. i just want to get out fo school for a bit and relax. plus i'm having the hardest time ever paying attention in class. i keep daydreaming and thinking of things totally unrelated to whatever is going on around me. darn this lovely weather!!!
but i must run and enroll for classes before they are gone

No, i am not catholic, but i do think that the Pope John Paul II was a very exemplary man for any christian. so far out of all that i have read this is the best quote i've heard. [stolen from the nro corner]:
IS TRAGEDY -- OR OURS? [Rod Dreher] As the Pope lays dying, I am reminded of an extraordinary assessment of his legacy offered several years ago by Washington Post reporter Roberto Suro, who spoke as part of a PBS "Frontline" documentary on John Paul. The entire interview, which is fairly critical of the pontiff, is here. Here is the money quote: I think the pope has to be a prophetic figure, somebody who changed humanity. What he offered, what he suggested, the road laid out, if followed, would have transformed humanity in a spiritual sense. He was calling at the end of the twentieth century for a spiritual life to become the center of man's humanity, for all men, and certainly for all Catholics and all Christians to rediscover spirituality as the guiding force in their lives. If he had accomplished that, he would have been a millennial figure, not the man of the century. Somebody who produced much grander changes than that.
Instead he is a historical figure, he's somebody who lives within the period of time, who had a message that had impact, that changed events, that changed lives, but did not nearly reach the dimensions that were the ambitions that its author set out.
At the end of the day, when you look at this extraordinary life and you see all that he's accomplished, all the lives he's touched, the nations whose history he's changed, the way he's become such a powerful figure in our culture, in all of modern culture--among believers and not--taking all of that into account, you're left with one very disturbing and difficult question. On the one hand, the Pope can seem this lonely, pessimistic figure--a man who only sees the dark side of modernity, a man obsessed with the evils of the twentieth century, a man convinced that humankind has lost its way. A man so dark, so despairing, that he loses his audiences. That would make him a tragic figure, certainly.
On the other hand, you have to ask, is he a prophet? Did he come here with a message? Did he see something that many of us are missing? In that case, the tragedy is ours.
it really does make you think....
